About Ealing: the Broadway, Walpole Park and neighbourhood life

Get to know Ealing through its green spaces, creative heritage and shopping streets beyond the Broadway.

A west London centre with several local high streets

Ealing Broadway is a useful starting point, with the station, shopping centre and streets around Haven Green close together. Follow the High Street towards Ealing Green and the pace changes: smaller shops, places to eat and the entrance to Pitzhanger Manor sit beside the route into Walpole Park.

Northfields, South Ealing, West Ealing and Pitshanger each have their own everyday shops and services. This directory focuses on Ealing and nearby neighbourhoods, rather than treating every address in the much larger London Borough of Ealing as part of one town centre.

Look for the layers behind the familiar streets

Ealing Council's local history records the opening of Ealing Broadway railway station in 1838, part of the change that helped a village develop into a London suburb. Its film heritage is another thread, with Ealing Studios and the Ealing comedies giving the area a place in British cinema.

Pitzhanger Manor offers a different route into local history through Sir John Soane's architecture, alongside a changing gallery programme. Check the venue's own visiting information before planning to go inside; the studio buildings elsewhere in Ealing are working premises, not an open visitor attraction.

Plan by neighbourhood, not just postcode

Ealing Broadway connects with the Elizabeth, Central and District lines, while other stations serve Northfields, South Ealing and Ealing Common. Use Transport for London's journey planner for your particular destination and current service information.

When choosing a shop, trade or community activity, check the listed base and coverage as well as the category. A business that visits customers across west London may be useful locally even when its office is outside the centre.
